Unofficial Netflix.app on iPhone 4 (and other models)
by apocolipse on Aug.06, 2010, under Uncategorized
–EDIT!!– The Official Netflix app for iPhone has now been released. Download for free from the appstore
. You can still go to the regular Netflix page in Safari to see the full page navigation. It will launch the app just as before. You have to use User Agent Faker to set to ipad otherwise you get incompatible player page, which is odd…
Ok so at WWDC Netflix CEO promised us Netflix for iPhone soon, after Netflix for iPad has been out for some time. Well he said “late summer” and its already late summer, still no Netflix.app. Luckily with a jailbreak there is a nice little way around it
. I’m going to walk you through that right now…
Firstly, this isn’t as simple as the iPad app because you must use Safari, however it still works decently ;P.
Step 1. Make sure your iPhone is jailbroken. Comex put out his all device userland jailbreak for everything up to iOS 4.0.1 at http://jailbreakme.com (side note, if you have an apple store near by set their DNS to 8.8.8.8 on devices and jailbreak them, send me pics
)
Step 2. Open iTunes on PC/Mac, go to the store and download Netflix for iPad.
Step 3. Right Click (Command + Click) and Show in Folder/Finder
Step 4. Rename Netflix.ipa to Netflix.zip, Extract, then navigate through the Payload foleder and copy out the Netflix.app folder.
Step 5. (Make sure you have OpenSSH installed on your iphone) With an SFTP client (Filezilla for win/linux, Cyberduck for OSX), open up your iPhone, and copy the extracted Netflix.app to /private/var/stash/Applications
Step 6. With terminal (or PuTTy on Windows) SSH into your iPhone and issue:
chmod -R 755 /private/var/stash/Applications/Netflix.app
Step 7. Reboot/Respring
Step 8. Open Cydia and install “User Agent Faker” (NOTE: Not Useragent Faker the sbsettings toggle, its broken in iOS4)
Step 9. Go into Settings -> User Agent Faker and set the string to this one below:
Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; U; CPU OS 3_2 like Mac OS X; en-us)
AppleWebKit/531.21.10(KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0.4 Mobile/7B367
Safari/531.21.10
Step 10. Reboot for good measure
Step 11. Go to http://netflix.com in Safari (making sure User agent faker is on) and Enjoy
I recommend making a bookmark to homescreen for netflix.com, I put it in a folder next to netflix.app. The actual Netflix.app wont do anything but load the movies ![]()
Enjoy folks, and dont spend $1.99 for that crappy browser that fakes useragents
iPhone 4 released.

So millions of people Thursday lined up at AT&T retail and Apple retail outlets around the country. Many more at RadioShacks, Wal-Marts, and Best Buys; all hoping to get their hands on an iPhone 4.
I myself was amongst the lucky few. I reserved my iPhone at a local RadioShack a friend of mine works at. In the chaos that was preorder day, June 15th. After calling for days to find out if I would be receiving one on the 24th, I was informed that specific store was not receiving any iPhones on the 24th. Outrageous!! I was doomed to waiting in line hoping to maybe get one, or waiting until mid July. Well at about 3pm on the 23rd I got a call from my local AT&T retailer. I called them about a week before preorder day, inquiring about information on the iPhone, and checking my eligibility for upgrade. The angel of an associate decided to put my name on the list for reserves, and called me on the 23rd to tell me to pick up my iPhone at 10am when the store opened on the 24th. Awesome! This news came right after the last minute Landon Donovan goal against Algeria. My lucky day.
I showed up at 7am, people already there but not many. The Apple store in Annapolis, about 15 mins away, opened at 7, and apparently saw a line of 1000 people and counting (I went by 2 days after and still a long line, just of people reserving!). At about 9 the store manager showed up, and deterred all the walk-in hopefuls, so a line of about 10 turned to 3. 9:30 we started seeing masses of people coming from disappointing Apple store visits. I got in 3rd, the AT&T store only allowing 3 people in at a time, which was wise considering they only had 9 phones to sell. As I walked out I picked up pace to my car as onlookers eyed my bag. Home safe time to play.
Well after a few days use I can say this is the most amazing device I’ve ever held. The clarity of the Retina display is supreme. Any articles or reviews trying to compare are just jealous. I’ve see this next to the HTC Evo 4G and it’s hands down better. Next to the Incredible it’s no competition either. Hands Dow the best looking display on any mobile device, and arguably the best looking display period, of any display in the world.
The cameras 5 megapixels seem too low for some people. Well fact is it takes amazing shots, and Apples noise suppression is great. Shots look comparable to my Nikon DSLR.
The 720p video even looks superb. It has some slight artifacting but not that bad, and only noticeable on larger displays. iMovie is amazing on the iPhone. I was wowed with iMovie for Mac and how smooth it made simple video editing. Bringing this to iPhone is just smart. Now you can shoot, edit, produce, and publish all on one device. In 10 minutes I shot together a few clips of my dogs, added some music, trimmed up the video a bit, and sent to YouTube. This will make sharing videos easier and better (and hopefully reduce the number of crappy videos uploaded to YouTube everyday
)
I’m still waiting for more apps to take use of the gyroscope. So far only a few have. Eliminate:gun range is one to note. With the gyro to aim, motion sensing is 1:1. It is absolutely perfect, and very responsive motion/position sensing.
All in all I’m more than impressed, and happy with my new iphone4. So happy this blog post is made from wordpress app for iPhone :p. Hopefully we’ll see more apps to take advantage of this phone. I for one can’t wait for Netflix :p

iDroid, Android OS on iPhone
by apocolipse on Apr.23, 2010, under Uncategorized
Well in the works for a while was iphoneLinux. To be honest, the first thing that I thought of when I got my iPhone 3G was “lets go linux!” Searching the web quickly I found a project started by one of the iphone-dev team members, planetbeing. iPhoneLinux is basically 2 parts, a boot loader (openiboot) and the other necessary part for linux…a linux kernel. Though planetbeing managed to get a shell going that was accessible remotely, not much was done for the past year or so.
That is until now. Wednesday, planetbeing posted on his blog a video and article on his background work. openiboot with Android OS, for iPhone! This is an extraordinary accomplishment on his part. Planetbeing has managed to get wireless, radio (phone/baseband/we you want to call it), touch screen, and a few other components working, though there’s still a lot of work to be done. Planetbeing’s blog can be found here: http://linuxoniphone.blogspot.com/ With his article, and a few new posts geared towards us developers.
For those of you wondering, “Can I have this now?”. The short answer is yes. The long answer is no. This is early alpha software, barely working, very buggy. Openiboot is currently only working on 2G (First Generation) iPhones. Work is in progress for 1st Generation iPod Touch and 2nd Generation (3G) iPhone. iPhone 3Gs has a giant question mark next to it currently as the hardware differs greatly so it will need a lot of work.
To those of you who have 2G iPhones and are well versed in low level system functionality (be it PC or mobile device) you’re welcomed to try and help out, everyone else I must discourage it as of now unfortunately, but dont worry. Soon enough we’ll have a simplified method for installation and bugs will be worked out
In the mean time, here’s the vid that planetbeing posted on youtube, shows what he has done. It’s very promising and I’ll be working with him for 3G devices
Other than that, anyone interested in giving this a shot hop on IRC and head on over to #iphonelinux on tgil.osx86.hu You should be able to find some extra information there aside from what planetbeing has provided.
DDoS on Ubisoft

Just a quick post to show I’m not dead…
Actual hacker activity old school style has been popping up lately. This time its not for profit, its not for damaging intent, it has purpose and meaning! World wide hackers have been attacking Ubisoft for their new DRM scheme. Those unfamiliar with this new DRM for protecting games from being cracked, here’s the breakdown. Ubisoft’s new DRM scheme isn’t quite “new”, however it is a “new” direction. What it does is require a constant internet connection to continue to play a game. Games which have this implemented so far are Assassins Creed 2, and Silent Hunter 5. Now the reason these two games are being attacked is due to the fact that they are Single Player games, that have no online play. This type of DRM has been around, Steam uses it (though there are cracked Steam games), Many multi player online first person shooters have required CD key registration in order to play online, though the single player campaign is playable without the “designated online genuine key”. However Ubisoft’s new push is targeting Single Player Only games.

Pyrit Cuda WPA-PSK Processing
by apocolipse on Jan.05, 2010, under Uncategorized
This post is about a nice little python app named Pyrit. Pyrit, written in python, is a very nice and flexible tool for working with WPA-PSK Brute Forcing.
preface:
In the realm of wireless networking (IEEE 802.11 specs, a/b/g/(draft)n), Security is the #1 concern. Many people, for the sake of deniability, choose to leave their WiFi networks open, thus allowing any and all traffic in range that wants to connect to utilize the internet connection. There are however several security measures on both the small scale and large scale wifi networks. Today I’ll only be speaking about lesser securities, usually found in home wireless devices.
The First level of security, which many do not see as secure, is hiding your SSID from public broadcast. What this simply does is require that the user who wishes to connect know the name (SSID) of the network, plus any other security information that may follow. Though this is somewhat secure, being that it takes quite some time to bruteforce the network name using mdk3 or other bruteforcing methods for SSID bruteforcing, all it takes is one client to connect, or be deauthenticated/reconnected to reveal the SSID to the hacker.

Psystar Defeated Entirely!
by apocolipse on Dec.16, 2009, under Uncategorized
Alas, the Empire has succeeded! (metaphorically that is). Read here: http://www.engadget.com/2009/12/16/psystar-banned-from-copying-any-version-of-os-x-helping-others/
Psystar, a Florida, USA based company who made and sold Macintosh Clones, as well as their notorious boot CD RebelEFI, which used open source software under BSD Licenses and Apple License (namely, boot132), has lost against Apple in a full swoop. A few weeks ago, we heard that they lost their case. However there was some speculation on whether or not their RebelEFI, which is as they say “Any OS boot cd” (ironically noted, that OS X is THE only operating system that needs such a CD, and the only others it supports are technically any Operating system that can be chainloaded). Now its certain, they can no longer make Mac clones (which was established) they cant sell/make/support/publicly help anyone installing OS X on non-Apple hardware, etc etc etc. Now this does not mean we, being the legit, free, open, OSX86 community cannot still thrive. Notably being that we are the best beta testers Apple could ever ask for. We do the real work, and crooks like Psystar change it up, rename it, encrypt it so we cant see that they just took our shit, and then sell it.
Well its all over Psystar, get the fuck out of here. Have fun with that $2.13million fine and paying all damages. Oh and also have fun when people that bought your software file a class action suit against you, likely not to happen but it may, and when it does, I will spill goats blood over my body and dance around a camp fire at midnight with a full moon, wearing only a loincloth and a wolves skin as a hat….
UHCI/EHCI USB Fix for Proper Sleep
by apocolipse on Dec.10, 2009, under OSX86
This article is mainly aimed at people who know what they’re doing it for, and who have some knowledge on DSDT (read my RTC/DSDT Starters Guide below).
The purpose here is to allow OS X to properly see your USB Devices. There are a few things we’re going to do here (mainly editing your DSDT) and the usage of this guide should help you understand more about both dsdt, and how OS X interacts with it, and the computer. The main goal being working sleep, and afterwards (with the ECHI being fixed) not having sleep immediately wake after it gets to sleep. One thing to note is this guide will ONLY work on Intel chipsets (ICHX), however it can be adapted to nForce chipsets, and I’ll post all the relavant deviceID’s in the bottom of this post. To start, we’re going to need a few tools:

My DSDT Guide, More to come!!!
by apocolipse on Dec.06, 2009, under OSX86
As originally posted on http://www.projectosx.com/
Simply DSDT
This guide is intended for people with some osx know how, but no dsdt know how (which there are quite a few), but the layman can possibly fix his DSDT with this guide as well.
First things first, we’re going to go download Fassl’s DSDT patcher,
it is located here http://www.projectosx.com/forum/index.php?…hl=dsdt_patcher
this is going to be the easiest way to get your DSDT from your bios.
we’re not going to be using the DSDT_Patcher program just yet though, first we’re going to be fixing the RTC, so we will be using the tools that DSDT_Patcher provides.
First things first, navigate to the folder where you Downloaded/unzipped dsdt_patcher from Fassl
Home:~ User$ cd ~/Downloads/DSDT_Patcher
